Smartphone connections allow us to access the Internet and enjoy many advantages but they are also one of the main reasons for battery consumption. If we got used to go shutting down connections that do not need to notice that the battery lasts longer, for example when we're at home it is better to have the WiFi connected and off the 3G mobile network. If we are away from home it is normal to connect the 3G and WiFi off, the problem is that if we approach a known access point can not connect via WiFi and 3G continue spending consumes more battery. The solution could be never turn off the WiFi, so we are always aware when networks are available, but it also consumes power. The Android platform has the advantage that, being open source, there are many applications that help us to improve the functioning of the equipment. In this case, the developer Sebouh00 has created an application that solves the problem of WiFi connection when you are moving. The tool has created is called Smart WiFi Toggler and what it does is activate the WiFi only when necessary.

This application works automatically and your goal is to save battery managing WiFi connection when we are only about a known access point. When we left home we disconnected and WiFi Smart WiFi Toggler because it will connect only when necessary. To locate our position using mobile antennas to which we are connected at the time, so do not spend battery with GPS location. The application can be found in the Google Play store and is completely free.

When we opened for the first time this utility several screens where you can configure the behavior of Wi-Fi appear. First we have an introduction which explains in detail the operation of the tool and on the next page can adjust the timeout, this figure refers to the time that the application waits to turn off the WiFi if the connection is cut, the default is 45 seconds, but we can increase or decrease. The next option is to set the timeout test, in this case refers to the time during which the WiFi will connect when we approach a known access point, if you can not connect it automatically turns off.

Following the setup wizard, the "timeout user intervention" is for the Wi-Fi remains active while we set up a new connection, here it is advisable to leave at least a minute to give us time to put the password new Wi-Fi. Finally, we must decide if we want the application to connect the beginning and if it will remain active all the time, ideally mark yes in both boxes but also can be connected manually only when we are interested. All of these options can be edited in the Preferences menu and configure each of the networks that we have stored behavior.
